About Lucía

Lucía was raised in the gorgeous coastal city of Santander, Northern Spain, though she was born in Zamora, a beautiful Romanic city tucked away in the deep Castilian plateaus of Central Spain.

At age 15, she received a United World Colleges (UWC) scholarship, which took her to the Red Cross Nordic international boarding school in Flekke, rural Norway. She spent her last 2 years of high school there, growing, learning and studying the IB alongside people from over 90 different nationalities — a deeply transformative experience which shaped her into the woman she is today.

It was at UWC that she first took her passion for Visual Arts seriously and began creating pieces in a variety of media. This, in conjunction with her other big love, Physics, led her to opt for a Product Design Engineering career. She attended Swansea university in Wales for a BEng degree in this field, which she thoroughly enjoyed! This course featured a Year in Industry program, which she spent at 3M Health Care, in Loughborough, as part of a small R&D department dedicated to the study of inhalation drug delivery systems.

After 4 years of Engineering, she decided to further explore the more creative side of her field and joined the Product & Furniture MA program at Nottingham Trent University. There, she also discovered her niche: Design for Play. She took every chance she got during her Master's degree to make playful products — learning that games and toys have the power to tap into core human values and emotions in ways other products cannot. Though she maintains a passion for all areas of Product Design, especially Consumer Products, using this power that games have as a catalyst for positive change in society has since then been the main goal of her career,

It was with that goal in mind that she started working for Ubisoft, one of the biggest names in the Videogames industry — a development she could not have predicted at the start of her career but one she never regretted. She spent 2 years as a Technical Artist, a role that suited her eye for detail and her logic-oriented mind. After that time, she made a horizontal move and became a Game Designer, the role she currently holds, where she shapes the play experiences and mechanics of an unannounced AAA project.

She is an enthusiastic, curious and dedicated designer who has a true love for the craft and holds a wide variety of multi-disciplinary skills. She loves a good challenge and will never pass up an opportunity to keep learning and growing — both as a professional and as a person.
